The long-term goal of this research is to improve the quality and timeliness of population health surveillance, and improve maternal and child health outcomes in this remote, low-resource. Our central hypothesis is that the combination of both mobile health (mHealth) surveillance and improved utilization of health services will increase prevalence of attended births by a skilled provider and successful transfers for high-risk pregnancies to a hospital. Community health workers in the respective areas already collect population health surveillance using a combination of mHealth and paper forms as a part of the current standard of practice. Our aim is to help understand and then optimize current practices for robust longitudinal tracking of population health information.
